One Rose

Walking in the garden on a winter day
The heavy sky above me is draped in sliver gray
Where the broken lilies lie scattered at my feet
I stop to turn my collar up and suddenly I see

One rose still grows among the barren thorns
It braves a bitter wind that blows
The fallen lie so deep
In snows of endless sleep
But one rose, one rose
Still grows

Could it be the reason, Christmas almost here
Why a bloom was saved for the closing of the year
Maybe to remind me of a winter morn
One so dark and cold, when another rose was born

One rose still grows among the barren thorns
It braves a bitter wind that blows
The fallen lie so deep
In snows of endless sleep
But one rose, one rose
Still grows
